Admission
Eligibility
Every foreign candidate who wishes to study in Poland must hold a
maturity certificate in order to qualify for admission to a higher education institution (HEI).
Maturity Certificate - a certificate of the completion of a higher secondary school abroad may be accepted if the total duration of the education leading to the certificate has been at least 11 years.
Maturity certificates issued in the countries with which Poland has an agreement on recognition of educational credentials do not have to be recognized. The list of these countries is available on the following website:
www.buwiwm.edu.pl/rec/index-legal.htm
Certificates of the completion of a secondary school originating from other countries must be formally recognized, that is nostrified, by the Polish educational authority.
Foreign maturity certificate or secondary school completion certificates may be accepted (nostrified) as equivalent to the Polish maturity certificates if:
- the total duration of the education leading to these certificates is at least 11 years;
- they are legalized.
The apostille is the legalisation provided by the appropriate institution in the country where the certificate was issued - they contain a clause confirming the right to apply for admission to all HEIs in the country where the certificate was issued.
If this is not the case, the applicant must supply, together with the school certificate, a letter from an appropriate authority in the country where the certificate was issued (i.e. the Ministry of Education, local educational authority etc.) stating that with such a certificate the candidate is eligible for admission to all HEIs. The Polish Foreign Service representative office or a Consular Office can offer advice on how to obtain such a document or can assess as to whether the presented certificate entitles the holder to apply to HEIs in a given foreign country.
The Polish foreign service representative office or a consular office can offer advice on:
- how to obtain such a document
- can access as to whether the presented certificate entitles the holder to apply to HEI in Poland
