Inverter for a photovoltaic installation

From November 2019 to September 2020, research and development work on the development of an inverter prototype to cooperate with a photovoltaic installation for Maciej Konrad Saczuk “Whitemoose” was conducted in Electrical Power Engineering Institute.

The work, headed by Ph.D. Tadeusz Daszczyński, was done by team consisting of MSc. Radosław Szreder, MSc. Kamil Kozdrój, MSc. Konrad Sadowski.

Research and development works included:

  • Performing the analysis of several variants of the inverter construction, a summary of advantages and disadvantages and justification for the selection of one variant;
  • Development of a design method based on functional analysis and technical knowledge in the form of an optimization task with one evaluation criterion, e.g. cost or weight;
  • Design calculations for several variants of the device for different guidelines related to the generator;
  • Final design of the inverter: selection of semiconductors and drivers, design of circuits (control and power output), selection of OVP, UVP, OVC, Term protections;
  • Development of technical documentation: drawings of individual details, dimensions, tolerances;
  • Design and construction of the pre-prototype test stand – possible execution of converter systems and a virtual instrument;
  • Pre-prototype tests, noise level checks, confrontation of assumed and measured values of operating parameters;
  • Finding the causes of possible discrepancies, correction of the design algorithm;
  • Design and execution of the final inverter prototype.

The result of the work is a generator prototype of inverter with parameters: power – 3000 W; input voltage – 60 V AC; output voltage – 230 V AC; overheating, short circuit, overcurrent, overvoltage and undervoltage protection.
