<\/a>Yet another<\/span> student<\/span> of<\/span> our faculty<\/span> Kamil<\/span> Czekirda<\/span> positively<\/span> completed<\/span> the<\/span> Google<\/span> Summer of Code<\/span>. In one of the<\/span> previous editions<\/span> successfully<\/span> participated<\/span> also other our student Mariusz<\/span> Zaborski<\/span>.<\/span> Google Summer<\/span> of Code<\/span> is a form of<\/span> paid internships<\/span> organized<\/span> by Google.<\/span> This year<\/span>, in the tenth<\/span> edition about<\/span> 1307<\/span> students<\/span> (including<\/span> 40 people<\/span> from<\/span> Polish<\/span>) took part<\/span> in the development<\/span> of free software.<\/span> One of them was<\/span> Kamil<\/span> Czekirda<\/span>, masters degree student<\/span> in Computer Science<\/span> and <\/span>at the Faculty of<\/span> Electrical Engineering, Warsaw University of Technology<\/span>. He worked<\/span> under the supervision of<\/span> Devin<\/span> Teske<\/span> and developed<\/span> a maintenance-free<\/span> installer<\/span> for<\/span> FreeBSD operating system<\/span>.<\/p>\nHe was granted a<\/span> scholarship<\/span> of<\/span> the amount of<\/span> $ 5,500<\/span> for three <\/span>months long<\/span> project work<\/span>. Additionally as a participant he<\/span> gained valuable<\/span> experience of working on<\/span> real<\/span>, large project<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n Kamil<\/span> in recent days<\/span> also had the opportunity<\/span> to participate<\/span> in the conference<\/span> EuroBSDcon<\/span> that was held\u00a0<\/span>in the capital<\/span> of Bulgaria. The conference gathered<\/span> developers<\/span> and supporters<\/span> BSD<\/span> systems<\/span> from around the world<\/span>. Kamil<\/span> was<\/span> also<\/span> invited<\/span> to attend the meeting of<\/span> FreeBSD developers<\/span>, where you can learn<\/span> how is functioning the open source<\/span><\/span><\/span> community<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>from the inside.<\/span><\/p>\n “<\/span>It’s an amazing experience<\/span> and<\/span> a great adventure<\/span>,” says Kamil<\/span>, “<\/span>I had the opportunity to meet<\/span> and get to know<\/span> many people<\/span> who have made a<\/span> significant contribution to<\/span> the development of<\/span> BSD systems<\/span>, including personalities like<\/span> Marshall<\/span> Kirk<\/span> McKusick<\/span> and<\/span> Eric Allman,<\/span> Berkeley<\/span>, and Andrew<\/span> Tanenbaum<\/span>, the creator of MINIX<\/span>, which was the inspiration for<\/span> the well-known<\/span> to everyone<\/span> Linux<\/span> “<\/span><\/p>\n We sincerely congratulate<\/span> and encourage<\/span> all computer science students<\/span> to participate<\/span> in future<\/span> editions of the Google Summer of Code<\/span>.<\/p>\n <\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Yet another student of our faculty Kamil Czekirda positively completed the Google Summer of Code.
