AIX Tip of the Week

Subject: New Dual Boot "multibos" Command (AIX 5.3 ML3)

Audience: All

Date: February 10, 2006

The new "multibos" command (AIX 5.3 ML3) provides dual AIX boot from the same rootvg. You can run production on one boot image while installing, customizing or updating the other.

This is conceptually similar to AIX's "alt-disk-install". However, in "alt-disk-install" the boot images must reside on separate disks and separate rootvg's. The "multibos" capability allows both OS images to reside on the same disk/rootvg.
