Sport and entertainment
Sport at the uniwersity
All the students during first 3 years of studies at WUT attend physical education classes. In the beginning of an academic year there are meetings in the building of College of Physical Education and Sport (12 Waryńskiego Street, dormitory Riviera) where students are informed about the rules of passing the classes and sport disciplines available for them. Students can choose volleyball, basketball, swimming, gym, football, table tennis, aerobics, skiing, and many more. Sometimes the possibility to train a particular discipline depends on a faculty. Usually a student passes the classes if he is present on most of them.
For people who want more sport there are students' organisations which activity is associated with sport and tourism. The biggest organisation is Academic Sport Association (AZS) with 35 different sections. Information about the meetings or timetable of trainings is available on website www.azspw.pl or in the association's office (in the building of College of Physical Education and Sport). There are also sailing organisations, for example Students' Sailing Club (SKZ) or 'Wimpel'. People who like trekking should go to PTTK, Students' Club of Beskidy Guides, Academic Tourist Club 'Maluch' or organisation 'Styki'. There are more information about these organisations at www.polibuda.info in section sport i turystyka / organizacje.
If you like travelling to mountains you must visit a hut of WUT called 'Koliba' in Bieszczady Mountains. Students of WUT are entitled to low prices for there.
Warsaw University of Technology has couple of sports objects. The main building is the building of College of Physical Education and Sport where you can play table tennis, use two gyms and a place to train aerobics. Gyms are also in some dormitories.
There are many places to train sport in Warsaw. You can go to one of the swimming pools (including 'Warszawianka'), sports halls, bowling alleys and many more. There are also two big ice rinks ('Torwar' and 'Stegny'). Torwar is the hockey ice rink inside the building, while Stegny was made for speed skating. You can rent ice skates in both Torwar and Stegny. If you like skiing you must visit 'Szczęśliwice' (open all year). It is a little slope with two ski lifts. There is also a place to train tobogganing and you can rent all the equipment. Lovers of fast cars should visit racetrack for go-karts 'Imola' in Piaseczno near Warsaw.
More information about sports objects in Warsaw are available on website www.polibuda.info in section sport i turystyka / obiekty sportowe (you will probably need some assistance from Polish speaking colleagues).
You can find some locations of sport objects at www.polibuda.info/mapa.php
