Unveiling of the memorial-bench of prof. Mieczysław Pożaryski


On June 7th, 2019, the ceremonial unveiling of the memorial-bench of prof. Mieczysław Pożaryski, the first Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and the first President of the Association of Polish Electrical Engineers, took place.

The monument was unveiled by the Rector of the Warsaw University of Technology prof. Jan Szmidt, Minister of Energy Krzysztof Tchórzewski, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering prof. Lech Grzesiak, President of SEP dr inż. Piotr Szymczak and his predecessors: prof. Stanisław Bolkowski and prof. Jerzy Barglik.

 

The bench stood between the Electric Building – the headquarters of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and the Faculty of Physics – the first headquarters of the Faculty.

The monument represents a contemplative figure of prof. Pożaryski sitting on a bench in the Viennese style. On the Professor’s knees lies his electrotechnics textbook „Naukowe podstawy elektrotechniki” (“The Scientific Principles of Electrotechnics”) and a copy of “Electrotechnic overview” (“Przeglądu Elektrotechnicznego”).

 

The author of the monument is prof. Marian Molenda, artist-sculptor, lecturer at the University of Opole.

The ceremony was also honored by the performance of the Academic Brass Band of the Military University of Technology.

Unveiling of the monument began XXXIX Extraordinary General Convention of Delegates of the Association of Polish Electrical Engineers on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of SEP.

 

During the debates of the NWZD, memorial medals of the 100th anniversary of SEP were presented and collected by the Minister of Energy, Krzysztof Tchórzewski, and on behalf of the Warsaw University of Technology: Rector of the WUT, prof. Jan Szmidt and the Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, prof. Lech Grzesiak.
